About the product

Titan Oxiron Pavonado is an anti-corrosion metallic enamel with a fine-grain blued forge finish — the most refined and exclusive finish in the Oxiron range, with a more subtle and elegant texture than standard Forge. Its alkyd formulation of high solids with great elasticity applies directly to steel without primer, with intermixable colors that are highly lightfast and offer an ample working time, facilitating touch-ups on surfaces with complex profiles. The blued finish reproduces the visual depth of industrially blued metal — rich, dark tones with a fine-grain texture that absorbs light differently from any other enamel. Available in 5 metallic colors in 375ml, 750ml, and 4L formats.

What surfaces and projects is it ideal for?

  • ✓ High-end railings and balustrades where a more refined metallic finish than rough forge is desired
  • ✓ Contemporary and luxury metal doors — premium gates and railings
  • ✓ High-quality streetlights, posts, and decorative urban furniture
  • ✓ Metal furniture for hospitality, restaurants, and design spaces
  • ✓ Interior ornamental elements — lamps, frames, sconces — where metallic depth without shine is desired
  • ✓ Industrial metal structures requiring durable protection with a superior aesthetic finish
  • ✓ Restoration of old deteriorated railings where fine grain covers better than smooth finishes

Why choose Titan Oxiron Pavonado

  • Fine-grain forge finish — more refined than standard Forge — the blued finish has a more subtle and fine texture than Forge, with greater metallic depth and less roughness; the result is a finish intermediate between smooth satin and rough forge, with maximum visual presence
  • High solids — greater protection and coverage — the high solids content ensures a thicker dry film than conventional enamels; greater anti-corrosion protection and better coverage in fewer coats, especially on highly deteriorated substrates
  • Great elasticity — resists metal expansion — the high elasticity of the cured film accommodates the thermal movements of the metal (expansion and contraction due to temperature changes) without cracking or flaking; especially relevant outdoors with large temperature variations
  • Ample working time — facilitates touch-ups — slower drying than Gloss and Hammered (3–4 hours to touch) provides more time to work with the product and touch up without marks; essential for ornamental railings with angles, curves, and hard-to-cover recesses
  • Direct application on steel without primer — no additional preparation or prior products; the alkyd formulation directly creates the anti-corrosion layer on clean and degreased metal
  • Intermixable and highly lightfast colors — the 5 colors in the Pavonado range are compatible with each other; high-fastness pigments maintain color without fading with years of direct sun exposure outdoors
  • Excellent weather resistance — certified resistance to rain, humidity, UV rays, freeze/thaw cycles, and aggressive environments in continuous outdoor exposure

How to apply — in 4 steps

  1. Prepare the surface: remove poorly adhered rust with a wire brush or sandpaper. It is not necessary to reach bare metal. Degrease with Titan mineral spirits to remove oils and grease. Dry completely before application.
  2. Prepare the product: shake well before use — metallic pigments tend to settle. For brush and roller, apply directly without dilution. For spray gun, dilute with Titan mineral spirits to the appropriate viscosity.
  3. Apply with a natural hair brush or roller, taking advantage of the ample working time to touch up on complex profiles. Distribute evenly in thin coats. The fine-grain blued texture develops during drying — do not re-coat areas that have started to dry to avoid altering the texture.
  4. Drying and recoating: touch dry in 3–4 hours at 23°C. Recoat after 24 hours. Clean tools with Titan mineral spirits immediately after use.

Do not apply at temperatures below +5°C or above +35°C, or in rain or with relative humidity above 85%.

Blued vs. Forge vs. Satin vs. Gloss vs. Hammered

Blued (Pavonado): fine grain, the most refined — high solids, greater elasticity, premium finish between forge and smooth. Forge: rough coarse grain, the most classic. Hammered: shiny hammered, the most decorative with warm metallic colors. Satin / Gloss: smooth, no texture.

Fine grain or coarse grain?

Blued (Pavonado) (fine grain) has a more subtle and uniform texture — more elegant, with greater metallic depth. Forge (coarse grain) has a more pronounced and rough texture to the touch — more classic and robust. For contemporary design railings or premium projects: Blued. For traditional blacksmithing look: Forge.

Application conditions and limitations

Do not apply at temperatures below +5°C or above +35°C, or in rain or with relative humidity above 85%. Do not apply on greasy surfaces without prior degreasing. Do not re-coat areas that have started to dry — this alters the fine grain texture. In the presence of advanced active rust with section loss, clean down to sound metal. Flammable product — keep away from heat sources.

Frequently asked questions

What is the specific difference between Blued (Pavonado) and regular Forge?+
The difference lies in the size of the texture's grain. Forge has a coarse, pronounced grain — its roughness is clearly visible and tangible. Blued has a fine, more uniform grain — the texture exists but is much more subtle, with greater metallic depth and a more refined appearance. Technically, Blued also has a higher solids content and greater elasticity, which translates to better long-term protection. For high-end or contemporary projects: Blued. For traditional and classic ironwork: Forge.
Why does Blued (Pavonado) have the slowest recoat time in the range (24 hours)?+
The higher solids content and greater elasticity of the Blued formulation require more curing time between coats to ensure optimal adhesion. If the second coat is applied before 24 hours, the first coat has not cured sufficiently, and lifting or poor adhesion may occur. This characteristic is the trade-off for the greater protection it offers — plan your work over two days or apply the second coat within the first hour if possible (before it starts to dry).
How many liters do I need for a fence?+
With 8–12 m²/L per coat, a 10 m × 1.5 m fence treated on both sides with 2 coats will consume between 2.5 and 4 L. A 750ml can is sufficient for a stair railing or specific elements. For medium-to-large projects, the 4L format offers the best price per liter.
Is it compatible with previously applied Oxiron Forja?+
Yes. All products in the Oxiron range are compatible with each other for maintenance coats or finish changes. If the piece has Forja in good condition and you want to switch to Pavonado, lightly sand the surface and apply Pavonado directly. The fine grain of Pavonado will visually cover the coarse grain of the previous Forja.
Which Pavonado color is most used in contemporary projects?+
Black and Steel Grey are the most sought after in contemporary design projects and modern architecture — they combine perfectly with concrete facades, natural stone, and dark woods. Bronze Green is very popular in projects with an industrial and vintage aesthetic. Rust Red and Rust Brown are preferred for ornamental pieces that seek to imitate the look of aged metal in a controlled way.
