Repair and finishing fillers
Filler is what separates a painted wall from a well-painted wall. It fills holes, smooths surfaces, and corrects defects before finishing. Each substrate requires a different formula: filling a plaster plug is not the same as repairing a wooden molding or a dent in sheet metal.
Which filler for each substrate

Mistakes visible after painting
- ✓ Filling a deep hole in one go: the filler shrinks as it dries and sinks in. Better in two or three layers.
- ✓ Not sealing the patch: the filled area absorbs more paint and shows a different sheen. Apply a sealer first.
- ✓ Dry sanding without vacuuming: filler dust gets everywhere and then ruins the finish.
- ✓ Covering an active crack without tape or mesh: it will reopen along the same line.
- ✓ Painting before complete drying: stains appear and the color does not match.
How to properly repair a hole
- 1 → Clean the hole and remove all loose material. If there is an old plug, remove it.
- 2 → Slightly moisten very absorbent plaster so that the filler does not dry suddenly.
- 3 → Apply with a spatula, leaving a slight excess thickness: it will shrink a little as it dries.
- 4 → Let it dry completely and sand with P150–P220 until flush, using grazing light to spot defects.
- 5 → Seal with a fixer or primer before painting. Without this step, the patch will be visible.
