About the product

Mora Wood Oil is a high-penetration protective wood stain formulated to be ready-to-use as both primer and finish in a single product. Thanks to its natural oil base and synthetic waxes incorporated at 180°C, it deeply penetrates the wood fibers without forming an appreciable surface layer, eliminating the risk of flaking and facilitating subsequent maintenance without the need for stripping. With a double UV filter and 100% sunlight-resistant nanometric pigment, it protects the wood against discoloration, moisture, and outdoor elements. It offers a waxed satin finish with a silky feel. Available in clear and colors (pine, oak, teak, walnut, wenge) and in sizes from 1L to 1,000L.

What woods and projects is it ideal for?

  • ✓ Exterior woodwork: wooden windows, doors, shutters, and casement windows
  • ✓ Dense and difficult tropical woods: teak, ipe, iroko, wenge, merbau
  • ✓ Outdoor wood decking and floors exposed to water and UV rays
  • ✓ Patio and garden furniture — penetrating oil that never peels or cracks
  • ✓ Exposed beams, pergolas, and wooden structures indoors and outdoors
  • ✓ Boats and wood in contact with salt water or high humidity
  • ✓ Maintenance without stripping — if the surface is not flaking, apply directly over it
  • ✓ Sun-faded PVC blinds — adheres to plastic without primer

Why choose Mora Wood Oil

  • Primer and finish in one product — no need to buy separate primer; the first coats act as a primer and subsequent coats as the finish, simplifying the process and reducing costs
  • No flaking, no cracking — by penetrating the fiber instead of forming a layer, the finish ages naturally without the deteriorated appearance of traditional varnishes
  • Double UV filter + nanometric pigment — blocks UV radiation that degrades lignin and causes wood to gray; colors maintain their intensity for years of direct sun exposure
  • Synthetic waxes incorporated at 180°C — create a hydrophobic barrier on the fiber surface that repels water and reduces dirt absorption without obstructing wood breathability
  • Maintenance without stripping — when the finish wears out from use, simply clean the surface and apply a maintenance coat directly; no sanding or stripping is necessary unless there is flaking
  • Enhances natural grain — the clear tone protects while maintaining the original appearance; colors (pine, oak, teak, walnut, wenge) enhance the grain with a deep and natural visual effect
  • Very suitable for brushing — consistency formulated for brush application in the direction of the grain, promoting maximum penetration and finish control without marks or buildup

How to apply — in 4 steps

  1. Prepare the surface: For new or untreated wood, sand in the direction of the grain with 150-180 grit sandpaper to open the pores and ensure maximum penetration. Remove dust with a dry cloth or vacuum cleaner. For wood with old flaking varnish, scrape and sand down to bare wood. If the wood is blackened or has mold stains, treat first with a suitable fungicidal cleaner.
  2. First coat (primer): Shake the container well. Apply with a brush in the direction of the grain, spreading evenly and ensuring the product penetrates. Allow to dry for 24 hours in winter (temperature <15°C) or 12 hours in summer. After drying, sand gently with 220 grit sandpaper and remove dust.
  3. Second and third coats (finish): Apply the finish coats using the same procedure. For very porous or deteriorated wood, apply a fourth coat if necessary. Allow 12-24 hours drying time between each coat, depending on temperature and relative humidity.
  4. Maintenance: When the finish wears out from use, clean with water and neutral soap, dry thoroughly, and apply a maintenance coat directly without sanding or stripping, provided there is no flaking.

Clean tools with turpentine or white spirit immediately after use. Do not apply in rain or at temperatures below +5°C or above +35°C.

Ideal for difficult woods

Teak, ipe, and iroko are woods with high natural oil content that repel film-forming varnishes. Mora penetrating oil stain is the specific solution: it penetrates the fiber, is compatible with the wood's natural oils, and provides long-lasting protection without surface adhesion.

Gloss or satin?

Satin: warm, soft, and natural finish — the most common for joinery, garden furniture, and decking. Gloss: more intense and shiny finish, with greater visual effect; ideal for decorative pieces and rustic furniture where the grain is to be highlighted.

Application conditions and unsuitable surfaces

Do not apply over old, intact varnishes without sanding down to bare wood first. Do not apply in rain, with dew, at temperatures below +5°C or above +35°C. For very humid wood (humidity >18%), allow to dry before applying. Do not mix with other products or dilute with water.

Frequently asked questions

How many liters do I need for my patio or woodwork?+
With a coverage of 6–7 m²/L per coat and 3 coats on new wood, you will need approximately 1L for every 2 m² of surface. For a standard 120x120 cm window (≈1.5 m² per side), 1L is usually enough for both sides. For a 20 m² deck with 3 coats, calculate about 10L.
Can it be applied over a previous stain or oil from another brand?+
If the previous treatment is also a penetrating stain (without an appreciable layer) and is in good condition, yes, it can be applied over it after thorough cleaning. If there is flaking, polyurethane varnish, or a paint layer, these must be removed with paint stripper or sandpaper before applying Mora Oil.
Does it work on teak and ipe without special primer?+
Yes, this is one of the product's strengths. Tropical woods like teak, ipe, and iroko have natural oils that prevent the adhesion of film-forming varnishes. Mora Wood Oil is a penetrating stain that does not require surface adhesion: it penetrates the fiber and is compatible with the wood's natural oils without additional priming. It is recommended to clean the surface well with solvent (white spirit) before applying to remove excess surface oils.
How often should outdoor maintenance be done?+
Outdoors with direct sun exposure, routine maintenance is every 2-3 years with a touch-up coat. In north-facing or protected areas, it can be spaced further apart. The sign that maintenance is needed is when water stops beading on the wood or when the color loses intensity. Since it never flakes, maintenance is reduced to cleaning and painting.
What is the difference between the gloss and satin finish?+
The formulation is identical; the difference is aesthetic. Satin gives a more natural and soft finish, and is most recommended for joinery, garden furniture, and decking where a warm look without excessive shine is desired. Gloss intensifies the grain and gives more visual depth, preferred for decorative pieces and rustic furniture where a more lacquered effect is desired.
